This tranquil Buddhist temple located in Kizugawa-shi is approximately 20 minutes by car from Wazuka-cho.
The name 浄瑠璃寺 (Joruri-ji) is said to have originated from Yakushi Nyorai, which is also known as the Medicine Buddha. Yakushi is also enshrined on the grounds premise within the three-storied pagoda. Joruri-ji is also famous for thee pond in the centre of the complex.

While it was speculated that temples of similar layouts were constructed in Kyoto Prefecture during the Heian period (794 - 1185), most of these have been lost. Joruri-ji is the last temple that exists to still retain these features.
