Yabukita is the most commonly found cultivated variety in Japan, with approximately 75% of the tea plantations being of the yabukita cultivar. 

While you may be familiar with yabukita as a sencha, yabukita as a matcha has a strong umami and a refreshing aftertaste. For some, especially Japanese tea lovers, this taste can be described as a familiar or nostalgic taste.

Yabukita was registered as an official cultivar in 1953 and is native to Shizuoka Prefecture.
