2024 Sencha First Flush: Yabukita - Yubune Hakusan Shrine
Cultivated variety: Yabukita
Shading period: 0 days
Cultivation method: Pesticide-free
Harvest season: Spring / 1st flush
If what you're looking the signature fresh aroma of the first harvest, this is the sencha for you. Actually Yabukita is the most widely cultivated variety in Japan, accounting for 75% of the total tea production.
For this Sencha, we operate our newly acquired (in-house) tea factory to produce all the Sencha! Unlike the large machines at the cooperative factory we used in the past two years, the machines at the individual factory are smaller, allowing the leaves to retain their original shape during processing. The rolling process is also gentler, resulting in a tea with less bitterness. Brewing it at a slightly higher temperature for a longer time than usual brings out a robust flavor.
This Sencha Yabukita was harvested from the field next to Hakusan Shrine. The distinctive refreshing aroma, reminiscent of melons and cucumbers, is unique to this field.
This Sencha Yabukita was harvested from the field next to Hakusan Shrine, just across the street from d:matcha store. This field is visited during d:matcha's Tea Picking tour, so if you have participated in the tour, you may recognize this field. Yabukita, Okumidori, and Gokō, three different varieties, are planted side by side in the same location, offering an opportunity to compare their unique characteristics.
This is the 4th year in which we have cultivated our tea fields without the use of any pesticide. Furthermore, only organic fertiliser is used. This produce is also part of our Adopt-A-Tea-Tree programme.
