We’re delighted to announce that our tea is now officially JAS Organic Certified! This certification reflects our ongoing commitment to natural farming, after five dedicated years of cultivating our tea fields without pesticides and using only organic fertilizers.
If you're after that distinct, fresh fragrance of the season’s first harvest, this Sencha might just be your perfect cup. Crafted from Yabukita—the most widely grown tea variety in Japan—it captures the essence of a classic Japanese green tea with a smooth, balanced profile.
This year’s Sencha is also the first to be fully produced in our own tea factory. By using smaller, more delicate equipment than large cooperative facilities, we’re able to better preserve the natural shape and integrity of each leaf. The gentle rolling process brings out a cleaner, less bitter taste. For a deeper flavor, try brewing it slightly hotter and for a bit longer than usual.
What makes this batch extra special? It comes from the tea field beside the serene Hakusan Shrine, where the leaves develop a refreshing aroma with subtle melon and cucumber notes. Although this year’s harvest is smaller due to a long, cold winter, the upside is a noticeable boost in quality—resulting in a smoother, mellower tea that we’re proud to share with you.
This Sencha Yabukita was harvested from the field next to Hakusan Shrine, just across the street from d:matcha store. This field is visited during d:matcha's Tea Picking tour, so if you have participated in the tour, you may recognize this field. Yabukita, Okumidori, and Gokō, three different varieties, are planted side by side in the same location, offering an opportunity to compare their unique characteristics.
This produce is also part of our Adopt-A-Tea-Tree programme.
The long and cold winter from late last year into early this year made us worry about this season’s tea harvest. As expected, our Sencha yield is about 40% less than last year, which is unfortunate. But with extra care and dedication, we’re happy to share that the quality is even better—smooth, mellow, and deeply comforting. Though the quantity is small, the tea is truly special, and we’re excited to share this joy with you. Let’s enjoy it together!
