Beautiful Japanese maple leaves have become one of the most recognisable motifs in Japanese culture, which symbolises peace, longevity, and prosperity. It is made by a local artist in Kyoto. The inner colour of the bowl will showcase the beauty of your Usucha.

The motif of the "青楓(green maple)" represents early summer in traditional Japanese painting. The refreshing green and blue maple leaves create a sense of coolness.

This hand-pained bowl is made by Akira Shimiziu.

Artist Information

  • Akira Shimizu is a traditional craftsman of Kyoto Kiyomizu-yaki
  • He was born in Kyoto Gojo in 1957
  • Graduated from the Kyoto Prefectural Ceramic Training School in 1977
  • Then, He became the apprentice of the first Kawabe Bisen
  • Established an independent kiln in 1984
  • In 1995, self-taught enamel painted glass art
  • Certified as a traditional craftsman in 2006
  • Recognized as a "Future Master Craftsman" of Kyoto City's traditional industries in 2016
  • Participated in the "Kyoyaki-Kiyomizuyaki Exhibition in Marseille" in France in 2017
  • Assumed the position of Chairman of the Kyoto Overglaze Enamel Pottery Cooperative Association in 2018
  • In 2021, appointed Vice Chairman of the Kyoto and Kiyomizu Traditional Craftsmen's Association.
