Tea Picking & Factory Tour

Deep dive into the world of tea farming and production with an on-site visit to our tea fields and factory.

[1] d:matcha Cafè & Kitchen

The tour begins at our cafe located in the heart of central Wazuka.

Visitors from Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara can easily access the location via JR West train services to Kamo Station.

For the afternoon tours, there is a bus service from Kamo Station that stops directly opposite our cafe.

[2] Introduction to Tea

Once settled in at our cafe, you will be introduced to the fascinating world of tea.

From the harvesting to the processing, detailed explanation will be given on the steps required to produce different types of tea.

You will also be treated to a special welcome drink, set against a backdrop of beautiful rolling green tea fields.

[3.1] Hakusan Shrine

Your tour begins at Yubune, a 10 minute drive from the cafe. This is also where majority of d:matcha's tea fields are currently located.

The hike up to Hakusan Shrine will take you through rows of cedar trees. An experience akin to a breath of fresh air as you track high up the mountain.

When you reach our first destination, you will be greeted with the serenity of Hakusan Shrine.

[3.2] Yubune Organic Tea Fields

A short track from Hakusan Shrine will lead you to d:matcha's organic fields. Here you will have the chance to indulge a bird's eye view of the vast wide green beauty of Yubune. Experience first hand the calmness of our tea fields.

This is also a special location as our staff will be able to show you three different cultivars of tea trees, all within the same farming space.

[4] Tea Picking

The next experience we have in store for you is tea picking. You'll be shown how to pluck leaves with the same techniques that was used back in the day.

[5] Factory Viewing

With a clearer idea of how working on the fields feels like, we will start on our journey back to Central Wazuka with a scenic drive.

Just before lunch, our staff will take you to our tea factory, which is where all the magic happens.

You'll receive a deep dive into the different machineries and processes.

Fun fact: Tea leaves harvested during the First Flush are processed by our team on the same day they're harvested!

[6] Lunch is Served!

A well deserved lunch or dessert awaits you now that you're back in our cafe!

Of course you're always welcome to add on either should you still feel peckish.

We are also happy to accommodate to your dietary needs, so please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any specific requirements

[7] Tea Tasting

The last component of your tour involves a complete tea tasting session of our Sencha and Matcha varieties. Aside from learning how to brew Sencha, you will also have the chance to whisk your own matcha.

All of these will be complimented with green tea tempura, made using tea leaves you previously plucked!

At the end of the session you're always welcome to stay and chat with the team. We look forward to having you.
