Cultivated variety: Uji Zairai
Shading period: N/A

Harvested from Yubune in Wazuka, Kyoto, Uji Zairai is a variety that is native to the Wazuka, and the Kyoto Prefecture. In fact, several other cultivars such as Samidori and Gokou have been cultivated from Zairai tea trees.

The Zairai tea trees in our field each possess their own set of different characteristics including taste and aroma. This makes the end product a blend with an extremely pure and natural taste.

Watch a video on our Zairai harvesting process here.

The First Flush, usually in Spring, is also known as the first harvest of the season. Only the youngest and most tender shoots are harvested. We hope you feel the tranquility of Wazuka with each sip.

Additional Information:

  • Seicha processing: To further emphasise the charm of our tea, d:matcha works closely with wholesalers during the processing phase. After the tea leaves are harvested, rolled, and dried, excess stem or powder are also carefully extracted.
